WEEK 4 Exercise

The superintendent, who started his job in November, said it was unwise to continue spending money at this rate.

Members of the school board, most of which were recently elected, agreed with the superintendent’s assessment of district spending.

Angered by the unproductive day he was having, the writer went home and sulked until he fell asleep.

Because the chef did not work on Wednesdays, he spent the day laying around the house.

Whenever an outsider dialed his phone, the chef would ignore the phone call.

Although the call could have been important, the chef paid it no mind and sleep asleep anyway.

While stepping into the lake, Veronica saw a tadpole wiggle away from her toes.

Since he came home from the war, Joe’s son has never been the same.

The tadpole, with its slimy green skin swimming away, was afraid of the larger intruder.

Joe’s son, now covered in hair and muscles, spends all his days locked upstairs in his room.

Veronice the intruder was afraid of the tadpole.

Joe’s son, the solider, was also afraid of the tadpole.

To finished the article before deadline, the reporter called all his sources at 7:30 a.m.

Writing the story, the reporter felt like he would get the story filed on time.

Tired from the day’s work, the reporter went home and fell asleep.

WEEK 5 exercise

John Steinbeck has inspired me as a writer because he wrote stories that took me to another place. I was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan and, until I turned 20, I never traveled outside the state. However, most of Steinbeck’s novels unfolded in California. When I read his stories, I imagined being in sunny California. These days, I have tried to write stories that take readers to another place the same way Steinbeck did with me.
